General Plumbing in Tenambit
Gas Fitting Tenambit
Plumbers Tenambit takes care of the gas side of the house: cooktops, heaters, bayonets and the lines behind them, across Tenambit and the nearby suburbs.
Licensed, tested, signed off. Gas work is legally a licensed job in NSW, and for good reason. A bad joint leaks into wall cavities where nobody will ever see it, so every connection gets pressure tested and certified, and the price gets agreed in writing first.
What we fit, move and test
Six jobs make up most of the gas calls we get:
Gas cooktops
Gas heaters
Bayonets and outdoor points
New supply lines
Compliance checks and repairs
Commercial connections
Whatever the job, it starts the same way. A look at what is there now, a quote in writing, and your approval before a wrench turns.
The gas hiding in the post-war houses
Plenty of the detached houses here were never built for gas. Natural gas went in later, retrofitted over the decades, so the cooktop lines and heater fittings in some mid-century homes were added by whoever did the job at the time.
Why that matters. A joint can hold quietly behind a cabinet for thirty years and still be sitting on a worn thread or a badly made connection. Renovations expose it, which is exactly when it gets redone.
So before new work begins, the older runs get pressure tested and inspected. Anything doubtful gets made good while it is still easy to reach, not after the new kitchen closes it in.
Winter is when the faults show
Gas heaters sit idle through a Hunter Valley summer, then get asked for everything from May onward.
First cold night, first real load. Fittings that seemed fine in March start playing up once the heater is actually working, because that is the first strain they have carried in months. A pre-season check sorts most of it: supply run, flue and appliance connections, all looked over before you are relying on the heater to keep the family warm.
How the job runs
Four steps, same every time:
- 1
Call and tell us
Ring (02) 4063 3455 and tell us what's going on in Tenambit. We'll ask a few quick questions so the right gear is on the truck the first time.
- 2
Quote before work
You get the price before anything starts. No call-out fee, no hourly surprises, and you approve the quote or we shake hands and leave, no charge.
- 3
Tested and certified
The old fitting comes off or the new line goes in, every joint gets pressure tested to standard, and the paperwork is signed off before we pack up the tools.
- 4
Backed, no questions asked
If something isn't up to standard afterwards, we come back and make it right, no questions asked. That's the standard every Tenambit job is held to.
That last step is not fine print. If a job of ours gives you trouble later, we come back and sort it.
Why locals keep the number
Nothing to open the account
The price lands first
Licensed every time
Made right, no questions asked
The size of the job never changes the standard. A bayonet on a patio wall gets the same care as a full appliance install.
Signs a fitting needs a look
Gas problems rarely announce themselves. They leave small clues, and the trick is acting on them early:
- A gas smell near the stove, heater or meter, even faint and only sometimes
- A pilot light that will not stay lit or burns yellow instead of blue
- A hissing sound near an appliance connection or along a run
- Rust or corrosion on the meter or exposed pipework
- An old appliance disconnected years ago and never properly capped
One of those on its own is worth a phone call. Sorted on your schedule, it is a small job; left alone, it is a risk inside the walls.
Where gas fits with the rest of the house
The full general plumbing list sits on the plumbing hub, and the run reaches East Maitland and the neighbouring suburbs either side.
Gas fitting questions, answered
Who is allowed to do gas fitting work in NSW?
Only a licensed gas fitter, and that is the law. A leaking joint inside a wall has nowhere safe to go, so every job gets done licensed, tested and left compliant.
How often should older gas fittings be checked?
Whenever you renovate, and sooner if you notice a smell or a poor flame. Plenty of retrofitted fittings in the older streets have never been inspected since the day they went in.
Can you run a new gas line to a cooktop or heater?
Yes. A supply line gets routed from the meter through brick veneer, fibro or newer framing to wherever the appliance lives, then pressure tested and certified before handover.
What should I do if I smell gas inside the house?
Treat it as urgent. Close the meter tap if you know where it is, open the windows, keep every flame and switch off, and call us straight away rather than waiting it out.
Do you handle the gas side of a renovation?
Yes, and earlier works better. Bring us in before the walls open so the existing line and fittings get checked and redone where needed while everything is still in the open.
How much will my gas fitting job cost?
You get the figure in writing before any work starts, and the call out carries no charge. Most jobs are straightforward, so the quote you approve is generally the invoice you pay.
